Silver Gray Ebony, Ceylon Ebony, Andaman Marble-Wood. Many piano keys have been made with this lustrous hardwood. It is black in color with brown to pale brown colored streaks with a pattern of rays that are very fine forming a minute pattern when joined at right angles by similar fine light-colored bars. This expensive hardwood is also used for handles, finger-boards of violins, inlays and marquetry.
